Joy McDaniel Academy of Dance & Gymnastics

Newsletter

The dance and gymnastic year is now well under way. We would like to thank all the parents and students for their patience and cooperation during Registration Days and the first few weeks of classes. The students are very eager to learn, and we are excited about a great year ahead. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at the Cordova Studio (383-8988) or Arlington Studio (867-1972).

REMINDERS

TUITION REMINDERS

bulletPlease make sure names are in all belongings brought in the studio.
bulletPlease do not wear hair bows to gymnastics. They get in the way and usually get left.
bulletPlease check the lost and found tub in the waiting room if you are missing anything.
bulletLeotards and tights are kept in stock if you need new ones.
bulletTuition is due the 1st lesson of the month. A late fee of $10 will be added if tuition is not paid by the 15th of the month.
bulletPlease put your child's name on your check. If you are paying by cash, please put the cash in an envelope with your child's name on the outside.
bulletRemember there is no deduction in tuition for missed lessons and there are no make up classes.
bulletThe monthly tuition is averaged out over the entire dance year--the five week months compensate for the three week months.
bulletRemember--we are offering electronic payments this year. You may take advantage of starting automatic payments at the beginning of each month. Just fill out a form and return it to Joy. Forms are at the front desk.

 OBSERVATION DAYS
For Dance and Gymnastics Classes

We will have an Observation day during your child's class for all Dance and gymnastic classes.

Cordova Studio - week of October 20
Arlington Studio - week of October 20

Due to limited space, no more than two observers per student and no babies, please. You may bring your cameras.

SPRING RECITAL INFORMATION

bullet

Our Spring Recital will be May 16 at Germantown Performing Arts Centre. We will have a rehearsal at the studio on May 9. This rehearsal is mandatory for older students. Mandatory stage rehearsals will be on May 13, 14, and 15. Younger students and gymnastic students will be assigned to be at one. Joy will have schedules in March. May 6 is an additional Mandatory rehearsal for Ballet III and IV, Tap III and IV, Jazz III and IV, Ballet Tech. III and Pointe.

bulletPlease do not plan vacations between May 9 and May 16. Each rehearsal is very important and students must be at the stage rehearsal in order to be in the recital. If you have a conflict with any of the rehearsal dates, you must notify Joy in writing before January 1. Please check on graduation dates (High School and Kindergarten)

CHRISTMAS DANCE PERFORMANCE

The dancers will perform in December at our Christmas show. The date will be posted in the lobby as soon as it is available.  The younger students will wear black leotards and pink tights and the older students will wear costumes from last year if possible.

STUDIO DECALS

COSTUME INFORMATION
Our Company Class is a group that performs and competes around town during the year representing our studio. They will be doing various fundraisers during the year to help defray their competition and travel costs. The first fundraiser they will do is studio decals for your car. Details and order forms will be passed out the week of September 22. The deadline to order decals is October 9.
bulletSince costumes add excitement and a professional quality to our recital, all of our students perform in costume in our May recital. Combination dance classes will have two costumes and other classes will have one per subject. Since the costume companies are taking longer to process orders, costumes must be ordered in December in order to have them by May. Your first non-refundable costume payment of $30 per costume will be due by November 20. The balance of the costumes will be due by January 31. For any costume deposits made after November 20, please add $15 per costume for separate shipping charges.
bulletWe will have our recital meeting and observation day the week of January 12 at the Cordova Studio and the week of January 19 at the Arlington Studio. At this meeting we will show pictures of the costumes, explain costume pieces and accessories, go over how the recital and rehearsals are run, explain picture days and other important "recital time" information. If you have any questions before then, please ask.
